The contract for 4th Street, 5th Street and 5A Avenue N. upgrades as well as the west end water main looping project has been awarded to Brooks Asphalt. It is expected that construction will begin on 4th Street on or about September 11th.
The new water treatment plant was officially opened on August 23rd with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Premier Alison Redford and members of the Vauxhall and District Regional Water Services Commission Board. Visitors had the opportunity to tour the new plant and enjoy lunch as we celebrated the occasion. Thank you to all who attended.
Park activities for our youngsters has been a success, nothing can replace having the pool operating for the summer, but these activities helped keep some kids busy during the warm summer days.
AHS has informed me that the new dispatch and location system for the ambulance is up and working. With this system, AHS will always know where all units are at any given time, and can dispatch the closest ambulance to your call. The attendant is guided to your location by the on board computer monitor.
The surfacing of 7th Avenue has been completed with the application of a product to enhance dust control.
Council debated the subject of issuing special passes to allow detached holiday trailers and motor homes to be parked on Town streets during the summer months. The motion was defeated as it was deemed to be not only a safety hazard but also could impede emergency services access.
Council adopted a policy on community hall rental waiver requests. This policy can be reviewed online or at the Town office.
Big NEWS for the Library. Council has given first reading to Bylaw 876-13 Borrowing Bylaw. This bylaw authorizes Council to incur indebtedness by issuance of a debenture(s) in the amount of $250,000, for the purpose of constructing a municipal library. The Library will now proceed with their construction plans.
