 Water Treatment Plant
The Water plant is on stream. It has been a long and troubled struggle to get this plant to produce water; our hope is that it will now give us great service for the next 25 or 30 years.
The sad part is the days of cheap water are now behind us and we will all soon see an increase in our water bills. This is a good time to check systems for leaking taps and toilets, as the more you use the higher your bill will be. Provincial Funding
It seems the Provincial Government is on a real tough program of cutting expenses, and the small town and villages are going to suffer the greatest cuts. Our Town relies on grants such as MSI, Municipal Sustainable Initiative grant for things like improvements to our roads etc. Our last communication from Municipal Affairs tells us that the amount of the total grants for the province will decrease in 2014 and be eliminated in 2016. Here is their new plan,” in order to address transformational change, our focus over the next years will shift away from operational support. Instead the funding will be realigned to Regional Collaboration Program”. We don’t really know what this means as yet. Stay tuned for more in future letters.
Bylaw 867-13 Number of Councillors / Bylaw 869-13 Appointment of Mayor
On a lighter note, Bylaw 867-13, which was to see a reduction in the number of Town councillors from 7 to 5, was defeated. However Bylaw 869-13 which allows the council to appoint a Mayor from the elected council has passed final reading.
